Conservation and Preservation

The preservation of our natural and historical resources has long been a priority for the Town of Topsfield. Over thirty per cent of the land area of the town is protected open space. The Audubon Society's Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Bradley Palmer and Willowdale State Parks and permanently restricted conservation lands contribute to Topsfield's rural character and allow us to enjoy its natural beauty.

Two National Register Historic Districts (the Town Common and River/Salem Roads) and a series of by-laws, including the Route 1 Scenic Overlay Zone, protect historic buildings and landscapes.

The Garden Clubs partner with other organizations on projects and make donations to groups such as the Essex County Greenbelt Association in support of our conservation goals.
